Last night's premiere of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson featured a very memorable scene in Kim Kardashian's bedroom--but how close was it to reality?

The People v. O.J. Simpson tells the story of O.J. Simpson (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) and his very public trial for the murder of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and waiter Ronald Goldman. In the first episode, O.J. was forced to turn himself in to the LAPD but revealed to friend Robert Kardashian (David Schwimmer) he had the intention of killing himself.

Wielding a gun, O.J. appeared to come very close to committing suicide in Kim's teenage bedroom, but Robert talked him down. As it turns out, this scene really did go down in real life.

Robert spoke with Barbara Walters in a 20/20 interview back in 1996, explaining just how the scene went down in his daughter Kim's bedroom.

"As I walked in the room I saw him looking at pictures of [his children] Sydney and Justin, and Nicole. They were in his lap. But I also saw wrapped in a towel a gun," Robert recalled. "I didn't know what to make of it. I was stunned. I came in and I . . . knelt on the ground and I took his hands and I said O.J. let's pray. I prayed that God would show him what path to take and after I was done praying he said 'I'm gonna kill myself.'"

He also recalled saying to O.J., "I could never walk in this room, my daughter couldn't sleep in this bed. She'd know what happened."

Kim was not present in the home at this time. It remains to be seen how the Kardashian family will be involved in upcoming episodes of The People v. O.J. Simpson.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on FX.
