Joseph del Campo is the oldest Survivor contestant since Rudy Boesch, but based on his appearance and active lifestyle, age is but a number.

'Survivor' Host Jeff Probst Teases 'A Lot Of Hardship' In Upcoming Season

Joseph is one of 18 new players embarking on the new season of Survivor, subtitled Kaoh Rong--Brawn vs. Brains vs. Beauty. He is a member of the Brains tribe, which is comprised entirely of players with high intelligence.

At 72 years old, Joseph is the oldest castaway in Survivor history since Rudy, who was 72 when he played in Survivor: Borneo, the show's inaugural season in 2000 (Rudy would ultimately return for Survivor: All Stars at age 75). But much like Rudy, Joseph is in great shape for his age. He is a former FBI agent  with tons of life experience  living in Vero Beach, FL.

Why 'Survivor' Fans Shouldn't Worry About Possible Cancellation For A While

Among his hobbies, Joseph lists in his CBS bio, "Classic car restoration, hiking, backpacking in the mountains, and writing articles about military veterans for a local monthly magazine in Vero Beach, Fla."

As for the past Survivor contestant he is most like, Joseph listed firefighter Tom Westman, the winner of Survivor: Palau.

Discussing why he thinks he will thrive on Survivor, Joseph says, "I have the ability to build an 'A' frame or a similar shelter with an elevated sleeping platform. I can start a fire with bamboo friction or eyeglass lenses, and prepare meals for fellow tribemates."

Joseph believes he is very prepared to go all the way on Survivor, noting, "I've trained all my adult life for an ultimate challenge. This is it!"
