Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were not nominated for Best Kiss by the 2013 MTV Movie Awards for the first time.

The lack of nomination for their roles in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 was a surprise considering the couple has won the Best Kiss award the last four years in a row. The on and off screen lovebirds played the characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, respectively, in all of the Twilight films.

The only actor to star in the Twilight franchise that was nominated this year was Taylor Lautner, for Best Shirtless Performance.

The Twilight films earned a total 23 nominations combined and 16 wins previously from MTV Movie Awards, including the Best Kiss Award given to both Pattinson and Stewart four years in a row.

With rumors that the couple had split up and were only together so they would not affect the recent release of the final Twilight film, a report suggested that MTV "didn't want to make things awkward by giving a broken up couple the Best Kiss award."

Before the release of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 in November, Pattinson praised the couple's steamy love scenes. The British hunk said in an interview at the time that the sex scene in the film was "better" than the previous Twilight film.

"Twi-hard" fans can recall when Twilight characters Bella and Cullen consummated their love in Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The passionate lovemaking scene was so intense that the couple broke their bed.

Enstars reported that Pattinson told Australian comedians Fitzy and Wippa that the sex between him and Stewart was intense and they didn't have to practice their vampire sex faces for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

When asked to describe the sex scene Pattinson replied, "I think it's better in this one. It actually works."

The nominees for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards were announced on Tuesday, March 5.

Seth MacFarlane's Ted and Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained scored the most nominations with seven each, including Movie of the Year. Mila Kunis' performance in Ted earned her the Best Female Performance nomination. Silver Linings Playbook came in as the third most-nominated film, which stars first-time Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence.

Comedic actress Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids, What To Expect When You're Expecting) will host this year's show. The 2013 MTV Movie Awards will air live on April 14 at 9 p.m. ET. It will be held at the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City, California.
