The first official trailer for The Purge: Election Year has finally been unveiled and Frank Grillo is back as Sergeant Leo Barnes.

Barnes will be the head of security for Senator Charlene Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell). In the clip she recalls how she was the only one who came out alive from the purge, while the rest of her family was slaughtered.

The trailer is full of gory and horrific visuals, as the people set out on government approved murderous rampage of 12 hours. There seems to be a twist in the plot as on the night of the purge, a traitor from within the government aalso pushes Barnes and Roan out of their safe official confines onto the dangerous streets.

The third installment in the series has been directed by James DeMonaco and also stars Mykelti Williamson, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Secor and Joseph Julian Soria.

In an interview with Collider, Grillo spoke about coming back for the project, revealing that the script was a major draw.

"The script is genius! I love these movies," he said. "I wasn't a big fan of the first one, but when [James] DeMonaco sent me the second script and asked me if I wanted to do it, I said, 'Yes, I love this movie!'"

The Purge: Election Year will open in theaters on July 1, 2016.
