Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger, and Paula Abdul have all been canned from the US version of The X Factor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision came after Simon Cowell and his team met in the UK to figure out what went wrong last season.

While Scherzinger and Jones' departures were not surprising, Abdul's firing came after Cowell's team deemed the judge's role as "irrelevant to the mix". Abdul didn't have much luck on the singing competition -- her contestants were eliminated early in the competition and viewers blamed her for the elimination of 13-year-old Rachel Crow.

Jones and Scherzinger also faced criticism. The former Pussycat Doll received death threats after various eliminations while Jones came under fire for being insensitive towards contestants. The two received pink slips last night without explanation.

Jones broke the news to fans on Twitter: "I wont be hosting next seasons XFactor which is a shame but I can't complain as I've had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show."

Last night's firings were not the first for Cowell and his team. Before the show even premiered in the US, British singer Cheryl Cole was let go after only two audition rounds.
