Hemsworth also spoke about how he would be sharing plenty screentime with Goldblum's David Levinson.

"I have a lot of stuff to do with Jeff Golblum's character in this. We've had a lot of fun in the Moon Tugg... It's big, it weights 40 tons," he said. "We had a lot of fun in that. It's kind of a different process than anything I've ever done before because it's a lot of imagining what's happening, filling in the blanks."

Resurgence has been directed by Roland Emmerich and also stars Bill Pullman, Sela Ward and Jessie Usher.

Here's the official synopsis for the film:

"We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

Independence Day: Resurgence will hit theaters on June 24, 2016, with actual Independence Day just around the corner.
