Dave Mirra committed suicide earlier this month, leaving his wife, Lauren, and their two young children behind.

Although Lauren has remained silent for over a week on Instagram, she released a statement to press days ago through her husband's rep.

"Dave‘s wife and family are shocked and saddened by the loss of such a remarkable person whom they loved so deeply. Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers and for respecting their privacy through this difficult time,” Dave's agent, Steve Astephen, said in a statement to Perez Hilton.

Mirra's fellow BMXer, and host of MTV's The Challenge, TJ Lavin, also recently spoke out.

"Dave always had the best stories. He was one of the funniest people you could ever know and was super quick witted," Lavin wrote on Instagram. "I could give you a hundred examples of the things he's influenced me on... Please know if you're even thinking about doing something like this that its NOT the solution, EVER... please call someone and tell them you need help. It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. This goes out to anyone. Please get help there are people out there that will thank you..."

During a 2004 interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Mirra spoke of his mental struggles.

"I do get sad. I get sad for stupid things, like reading the news about things that go on in the world," he said. "I don't like hearing about pain and suffering, especially, like, kids and poor people. That makes me sad. I think I feel things deeply."
