"Veronica Mars-The Movie" fans can sleep peacefully tonight for the first time in six years. The movie is definitely going to be made after fans chipped in $2 million dollars (and counting) to make it.

Mars creator Rob Thomas and actress Kristen Bell today launched a fundraising campaign for the movie on Kickstarter.com, a funding platform for creative projects. The goal was to raise $2 million. After four hours fans had put $1 million and in another seven hours, the goal was met. At the time of writing this story, over 36,000 fans had contributed more than $2.27 million and the numbers continued to increase every minute.

There are still 30 days to go for the fundraiser which can guarantee a better movie for the fans, according to Thomas.

"Hallelujah! It's a green light my friends. I love you all, but particularly the donors among you," wrote Thomas Wednesday night on his Facebook account which has over 300,000 Likes.

"My mind is blown," he told Entertainment Weekly today. "I've been fantasizing about this taking big and had to tell myself, 'Stop it, Rob, you're being silly. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.'"

"And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver."

The "Veronica Mars" movie will start shooting this summer and will be released in early 2014. It had been rumored to be in production for many years but that didn't happen because of lack of funds.

The TV series "Veronica Mars" starring Bell as a high school detective (now available on www.thewb.com), lasted only for three seasons before it was canceled in 2007 but it left many fans unhappy.

"I need Veronica and Logan to get married, I need closure!" wrote one apparent fan called Kathy Lyons on Facebook.

Fans can still donate to the movie. Thomas and Bell set up the fundraising so that donors can be rewarded whenever they give. For example, anyone who chips in $10 or more, will receive the shooting script while a donor who gives $10,000 or more gets a role in the movie.
