Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough is set to star in an upcoming Broadway revival of Singin' in the Rain.

'America's Next Top Model' Winner Joining 'Dancing With the Stars'?

Hough is set to star in the lead role of Don Lockwood in a Broadway adaptation of the beloved 1952 musical, according to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter. The musical is slated to debut in the 2016-17 season, with Jan. 2017 as the projected opening date.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Hough had "unofficially" auditioned for the role while performing in New York Spring Spectacular last year.

So does this complicate Hough's participation in Dancing With the Stars? Possibly. It remains to be seen how long Hough's commitment to the musical would be, but assuming it extends through March of 2017 and beyond, it would be impossible for him to compete in DWTS at the same time.

Hough has gradually become the most popular pro in DWTS history, winning six seasons with his various celebs. He won with Brooke Burke in season 7, Nicole Scherzinger in season 10, Jennifer Grey in season 11, Kellie Pickler in season 16, Amber Riley in season 17 and Bindi Irwin in last fall's season 21.

He will likely return for season 22 as well to see if he can win a second consecutive Mirrorball trophy and extend his lead over the other pros.

The celebs and pros competing in season 22 will be announced on Tuesday, March 8 on ABC's Good Morning America.

Dancing With the Stars season 22 premieres Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
