  • 'Star Trek Beyond' is an upcoming 2016 science fiction action film and the sequel to Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). It is the thirteenth film in the Star Trek film franchise and the third installment in the reboot series. The film is directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne and Patrick McCay.

Premise: The USS Enterprise crew, led by Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), has been attacked by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens, leaving the crew stranded on a new planet where they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy, while finding a way to get off the planet.

The teaser trailer was released on December 14, 2015. It was widely criticised by fans for focusing too much on action and for featuring the Beastie Boys song "Sabotage," which many considered out of place. Simon Pegg expressed similar thoughts upon release, claiming that he "didn't love it" because "I know there’s a lot more to the film." He considered the trailer to be the marketing team saying "Come and see this movie! It's full of action and fun!" and little more.

The film is scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release.
  • Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk. Pine said he wanted his portrayal of Kirk to most resemble Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones or Han Solo characters, highlighting their humor and "accidental hero" traits.
  • Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura.

In the 2009 film Star Trek, Zoë Saldana plays a young Uhura who is introduced as a cadet at the academy, but is promoted to a communications officer as the movie unfolds.
  • Idris Elba as Krall.

In March 2015, Idris Elba was in early talks to play the villain, and he was confirmed for the role in the following months, but few firm details have been shared about the character he will play.
  • Simon Pegg as Lieutenant Commander Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.

Pegg commented that Paramount "had a script for Star Trek that wasn't really working for them. I think the studio was worried that it might have been a little bit too Star Trek-y." For his role as the primary screenwriter, Pegg had been asked to make this new film "more inclusive", stating that the solution was to "make a western or a thriller or a heist movie, then populate that with Star Trek characters so it's more inclusive to an audience that might be a little bit reticent."
  • Zachary Quinto will reprise his role as Commander Spock. Quinto have signed a contract to return as Spock for a fourth film, should one be made.
  • Anton Yelchin will also return to hs role as Ensign Pavel Chekov.
  • Karl Urban as Lieutenant Commander Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy.
  • John Cho will be reprising his role as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu.
  • Sofia Boutella as Jaylah. Boutella was confirmed as a cast member, in a female lead role.
  • Deep Roy was confirmed to reprise the role of Keenser.
