2013 NIT Bracket Full List: Kentucky No1. Seed
Although an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament is not what most college teams set out to accomplish at the beginning of the season, the tournament does offer a chance at redemption.
On Sunday, the selection committee unveiled the 2013 NIT brackets, with Kentucky nabbing the No. 1 seed. A year after the Wildcats won the Men's NCAA championship; they will travel to Robert Morris on Tuesday for a shot at winning a NIT championship.
Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Virginia also nabbed No. 1 seeds on the 32-team tournament field. The matchup features 21 teams with at least 20 wins, 10 automatic qualifiers and representation from Division I conferences.
Stony Brook, Mercer, Charleston Southern, Long Beach State, Northeastern, Niagara, Norfolk State, Robert Morris, Stephen F. Austin, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech were among the automatic NIT qualifiers due to finishing at the top in their respective leagues.
Last year, The Stanford Cardinal won the 2012 NIT, defeating Minnesota and UMass in the semifinal and final rounds at Madison Square Garden, SB Nation reported.
St. John's is making the team's 29th appearance in the tournament, along with 2012 semifinalists Massachusetts and Washington. In all, the 2013 field features seven teams that played in the NIT in 2012.
March 19 and 20 will be the first round while the 2nd round will take place from March 21-27 before the final four teams travel to New York City for the semi finals and championship game on April 2 and 4.
NIT games are being televised by ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.
