'Person Of Interest' Season 5 Air Date: Premiere & Cancellation Announced, Will Finale Satisfy? [VIDEO]

Person of Interest served up a double whammy on Wednesday - a premiere date and a cancelation announced just hours apart.

It's been a rough year for the CBS series. After being trimmed to just 13 episodes, the drama's fifth season failed to find a spot in the network's fall lineup. Person of Interest was passed over once more when the spring schedule hit the air, and by that point, fans were starting to wonder if JJ Abrams' series would ever air again.

Well, after a year in limbo, Person of Interest will hit the air once more on May 3. In an interesting twist, the series will air Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET. Season 5 will kick off its short run with "B.S.O.D," which will pick up in the wake of The Machine's destruction. The series will then air its series finale, "Return 0," on June 21.

"We're extremely excited to be able share this final season with the fans," executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman told IGN. "This subversive little paranoia-inducing cyberpunk-thriller is for you and would not have been possible without your support...We can't wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter."

Even though Person of Interest's writers didn't know if "Return 0" would serve as a series finale, fans will not be disappointed by the series final hour.

Penning episode 13 as a last hurrah was "the goal," Abrams told TV Line back in January. While the episode could have easily been adjusted if ratings presaged a sixth season, the EP confirmed that "the idea [was] that this would be the finale."

So, what should you look forward to during Person of Interest's final days? Root (Amy Acker) and Shaw (Sarah Shahi) fans, for instance, will have plenty of reasons to tune in. Separated in the finale, the couple will eventually reunite. Shippers can look forward to a few major Root/Shaw milestones before the end.

Meanwhile, Grace (Carrie Preston) will return and Root will butt heads with Finch (Michael Emerson) as they work to rebuild his greatest invention.
