My Chemical Romance, the alternative rock group best known for its UK No. 1 single "Welcome to the Black Parade," is separating after 12 years, the band announced on its website on Friday.

The band had played together since 2001 and in a statement they said being in the band "has been a true blessing."

"We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure," the announcement said.

The band originally from New Jersey, is known for bringing emo (emotional hardcore) mainstream, according to Rolling Stone.

In 2006, My Chemical Romance released their album "The Black Parade" which reached Number Two in charts. Their last studio album called "Danger Days: The True Lives of Fabulous Killjoys" was released in 2010.

"Beyond any sadness, what I feel the most is pride," frontman Gerard Way wrote on his Twitter account.
