Unfortunately for fans of CBS's The Big Bang Theory, season six of its show will be going on a hiatus until May. However, upon its return infamous actor Bob Newhart will be guest starring.

TV Line reported that the 83-year-old Newhart standout will be appearing on the series' May 2nd episode, marking the very first appearance on a sitcom by an actor in over a decade.

The site went on to state that he'll be playing what's described as "the show's version of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Professor Proton was one of Sheldon's favorite programs as a child. Therefore, when he finds out that the man (played by Newhart) is now offering his services for events, he makes the decision to take advantage of the opportunity and books Newhart's character at his apartment.

In other Big Bang news, E! News reported that someone on the cast will be having a medical emergency on the future episode, or at least one that's budding out of their own mind.

The entertainment company reported that CBS is currently in the process of casting somebody to don the role of a paramedic. However, the only clear-cut detail given on the respective scenario is that it will be a principal role in a storyline revolving around Leonard and Sheldon.

The Big Bang Theory is set to return with an all-new episode on Thursday, April 4 at 8 p.m. EDT on the CBS network.  Highlights from the early part of season six can be viewed below.
