'Snowden' 2016 Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Scott Eastwood & More

The true story follows Edward Snowden, an American computer professional who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA) to The Guardian in June 2013.

  • 'Snowden' is an upcoming 2016 biographical political thriller film directed by Oliver Stone and written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald. The film is based on the novels The Snowden Files by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena.

    Filming began on February 16, 2015 in Munich, Germany. Snowden is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on September 16, 2016, by Open Road Films.

    Edward Joseph Snowden is an American computer professional, former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee, and former contractor for the US Government who copied and leaked classified information from the United States National Security Agency (NSA) in 2013 without prior authorization. His disclosures revealed numerous global surveillance programs, many run by the NSA and Five Eyes with the cooperation of telecommunication companies and European governments.
  • Shailene Woodley confirmed to join the film to play Snowden's girlfriend, Lindsay Mills.
  • Scott Eastwood joined the cast to play an NSA agent "Trevor".
