Good Day New York superseded NBC's Today show for two months in a row.

They beat The Today show for the first time ever in February, and had a 9 percent advantage over Today in the advertising to adults 25-54, according to Radar Online. Among the 25-54 age range, the New York City show averaged 112,500 daily viewers, compared to 102,700 for Today

The announcement came one day after the network denied multiple reports that co-host Matt Lauer may be replaced by CNN's Anderson Cooper.

"Matt Lauer is the best in the business. We want him in the Today show anchor chair for many years to come," Alexander Wallace, executive producer of the Today show, had said in a statement Wednesday in response to these reports.

Good Morning America was on top, with an average 162,800 demo viewers in the market. A year ago, Today averaged 168,300 viewers in February.

This was the first time Good Day New York beat Today in February sweeps since 2003, when Nielsen introduced its people-meter rating system, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

One reason for their higher rating, the report stated, is that Greg Kelly returned in January, seven months after he left to anchor the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Kelly rejoined Good Day New York co-anchor Rosanna Scotto, who has been with the Fox station for 27 years.
