All hell broke loose Monday when it was revealed that ABC was not bringing Stana Katic and Tamala Jones back for the ninth season of Castle, but are more cuts on the way?

Katic, who plays Kate Beckett and Jones, who plays Lanie Parish, were both not asked to come back for season 9 of Castle, multiple reports confirmed on Monday. The news was a huge blindside to fans, but also the cast itself.

Jon Huertas, who plays Esposito on the series, tweeted after the news broke about him and frequent scene partner Seamus Dever (who plays Ryan) not being asked back yet.

Huertas also spoke on having to learn the news of Katic and Jones' departure online rather than through ABC itself.

Dever tweeted his own thoughts and while they aren't as passionate as Huertas', the disappointment is palpable.

Even creator Andrew W. Marlowe was left devastated, simply tweeting:

Curiously, main star Nathan Fillion (who plays Castle) has chosen not to tweet anything regarding the announcement or make a statement to any media outlets.

Some are speculating that this may be due to friction between Fillion and Katic. Rumors of their on-set tension have swirled for years, and a source told Us Weekly this week that there's a little more than tension going on:

"Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion completely despise each other," the source said. "They will not speak when they are off set, and this has been going on for seasons now."

However, a representative for Katic said that she "had absolutely no issues" with Fillion.

UPDATE: Nathan Fillion has now responded to the news on Twitter:

It remains to be seen how Castle will handle the sudden departure of Katic's Beckett and Jones' Lanie and whether more cuts are coming.

Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
