Even though Independence Day: Resurgence came after two decades of the release of the original, the wait for another sequel or spinoff for the franchise might not be as long.

In a recent interview, Jeff Goldblum, who is reprising his role as David Levinson, revealed the possibility of sequels for Resurgence. At CinemaCon last month in Las Vegas, Goldblum spoke to Fandango about what lies ahead.

The Fandango post is now defunct, but The Independent and SlashFilm managed to pick it up and relay the reporting. "I think what they have in mind is that if this is well enjoyed, then they have some ideas," Goldblum is quoted saying. "And there may even be an artful reference towards the end of the movie of what could [happen next]. It sets up the possibility that it's not over - that the fat lady has not yet sung." This clearly hints at longevity for the franchise if Resurgence goes well at the box office.

Jessie Usher, who will be playing Dylan-Dubrow Hiller, Steve Hiller's (Will Smith)--although Steve will be dead in Resurgence--son in the movie also dished about the new world the movie opens up. "We learn quite a bit about the aliens," he's qouted saying. "What else is out there? What hasn't visited Earth yet? They start to delve more into that, too."

The latest trailer for the film, which was also unveiled at CinemaCon, revealed Hiller's death. In the trailer we see Levinson telling Hiller's son, Dylan-Dubrow Hiller that his father was the bravest man he had ever known, the camera then pans to a photo of Steve Hiller with his family, implying that that Smith's character is dead.

Independence Day: Resurgence will open theaters on June 24, 2016.
