When Kordell Stewart filed for divorce from Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Stewart, news went public surrounding several reasons for the cause of the sudden divorce. Kordell has dodged rumors of his sexuality in the past, but new reports have indicated that the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback quit playing professional football because of homosexual activities he was involved in.

Kordell filed divorce papers on March 22 at Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia, TMZ reported.

In the papers, the former NFL player said that his marriage to Porsha of almost two years is "irretrievably broken," and that the couple is presently separated.

Sources said that Porsha was blindsided by the divorce and that she tried her best to make the marriage work.

A recent report by 24 Hour Hip Hop claimed that Kordell quit football because he was labeled gay by his teammates and many of his peers. The site also reported that Kordell was caught engaging in a sexual activity once in a limousine, but the incident was never made public because of his fame.

Kordell's former teammate Plaxico Burress, who now plays for the Steelers, addressed the gay rumors surrounding Kordell in a 2008 interview with Tim Benz of 105.9 and said it was "tough" for him to deal with.

"I didn't call him gay or anything like that. . . . I think that's one of the reasons why he really couldn't become the player that he wanted to be. . . .It has to play on you mentally a little bit," Burress said at the time.

Kordell lashed out against the rumors during the 1997 season and said he wasn't gay, stating, "I believe in Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."

Porsha defended her estranged husband and said he wasn't gay. She appeared as a guest on Power 105 FM's Breakfast Club back in December and host Charlemagne Tha God asked the reality star if Stewart was a homosexual.

"You know there were a lot of gay rumors about Kordell at one point. He [allegedly] got caught in the park in Pittsburgh and the police didn't want to turn him in because he was a star quarterback," Charlemagne Da God asked.

Porsha responded and said: "There's lies out there on the Internet about all kinds of celebrities," she said.

Enstars reported on Saturday that Porsha filed a legal response to her estranged husband's divorce, claiming for alimony and additional relief.

"Mrs. Stewart is disappointed about her husband's recent filing for divorce. Mrs. Stewart had held off on filing for a divorce herself and remained committed to the marriage because Mr. Stewart promised to work on the marriage with her," Porsha's representative told Yahoo.
