Sela Ward dished on what it's like playing the president in the upcoming flick Independence Day: Resurgence.

On Saturday, Variety posted an interview with the actress who plays the leader of the country while deciding what to do when aliens take over. This wasn't an easy task for Ward mainly since there was pretty much only one female politician she could relate to-- Hillary Clinton.

"We don't have any female presidents to emulate," Ward pointed out. "But I watched a lot of Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail, just to see physically what she would do, how she would approach a podium, a crowd, etc. [Germany's] Angela Markel, I would look at a little bit. She's not as expressive. It's really mostly watching Hillary, who is the only real female role model we have."

Ward didn't really watch any male presidents to prepare for the role. And while she studied Clinton's physical moves, she pointed out that her character is not based on Clinton.

"She's based on how Sela would approach the world," Ward said.

As for what kind of US president that audiences can expect in the film, the actress described her character as "fabulous."

"She's very strong, decisive, not afraid to use force," she added. "She's a risk taker, a split-second decision-maker. I loved her."

Ward also dished on her own thoughts on politics where she hasn't decided who she's voting for in the election this year. She also has her own particular label on which side she lands on.

"I'm an independent. I'm such a centrist," she said. "We need to have our own party."

Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters on June 24. The film also stars Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.
