It looks like Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV, which would be releasing this coming September, would face some tough competition, as Atlus, makers of the wildly-popular Persona series, has announced on Thursday that the latest installment in the franchise would also be seeing a Japanese release on Sept. 15.

Persona 5, the latest title to be released under the popular brand, has seen a number of delays in the past. Though enjoying a pretty good level of popularity among fans of the game and its anime adaptation alike, the highly-anticipated game ended up being delayed from an initial September 2015 release to a vague Summer 2016 date.

Alas, it seems like the wait is over, as fans of the series now have a concrete date. As for the game's international release, however, the details are still scarce. Nevertheless, the fact that the game is releasing in Japan practically pertains to a Western release date that is not too far away.

During Atlus' announcement, the game developer revealed that the Sept. 15 date would not only see the release of the Japanese title, a special "Anniversary Edition" of Persona 5 would also be released. The special set, which includes an art book, the game's official OST and an exclusive DLC would be available for limited release as a means to commemorate the series' 20th anniversary.

Apart from the announcement, however, Atlus also released a new trailer for the game, complete with in-game footage. The trailer, which features anime cutscenes that seemed to have spared no expense when it comes to quality, has largely delighted fans, with a number of gamers stating that they would pre-order the game as soon as it is released.

Perhaps what was most interesting about the trailer, however, was the in-game footage interspersed throughout the video. From what could be seen so far, it seems like the upcoming game would be beautifully-rendered and extremely dynamic.

Persona 5 director Katsura Hashino has stated his optimism about the upcoming game's plot.

"In the previous game, we wrote a story that involved having a justice group chase down a bad guy that could easily be feared by just about anyone. This time, it's about a group of high school students that are being 'chased' by unexpected occurrences due to the justice they believe in. We're writing the story to convey a thrilling everyday life in the shoes of these characters, that are as large as life, in this juvenile school setting," he said.

If the latest trailer is any indication, Persona 5 is looking to be a formidable game indeed.
