A vegan couple flipped out at a restaurant after they were charged for a meal even though they brought their own food.

Jack and Toby Litsky both turned vegan when they hit their 50th birthday and decided to opt for healthier eating options as they age.

However, most restaurants did not provide wholegrain pasta which is vegan-friendly so Jack often solved this problem by taking in his own dried pasta for the restaurant to cook up. He would usually receive a discount for bringing in his own ingredients for the food - a meal he said typically costs him $12.

According to the Christian Post, the pair often visited Monticello restaurant in New Jersey who offered him this discount. However, over the weekend, the vegan couple were charged $24 rather than $12, even though he had brought his own pasta.

Jack expressed his anger for being double-charged by writing a lengthy 1300 word rant to New Jersey Star-Ledger on how he was treated.
He told the Ledger: "[The owner] said, 'You come here on a Saturday night and order a custom meal. I have to charge you extra.' I said, 'But you've already set the precedent where you charged me a lot less than that on several occasions,' and she said that was the old manager's decision and this was the new price."

Jack had refused to pay the $24 bill, and police had to be called, which eventually led him to pay the full price. He took his experience at the restaurant to vent to the public about his mistreatment.

Reports say the restaurant agreed to refund $12 back to Jack after his story was retold in other news stories.
