The Night Shift's Drew and TC are worlds away, but the pair will have the same goal during the season 3 premiere - keeping the morgue as empty as possible.

NBC will return viewers to the halls of San Antonio Memorial on June 1, but the premiere's high stakes will carry over into episode 2. Titled "The Thing With Feathers," the June 8 hour will see the Texas team struggle to save a young family while, nearly 12 thousand miles away, Drew (Brendan Fehr) and Dr. Syd (Jennifer Beals) will attempt to contain an OR shooting.

"In the second half of this two-part episode, TC (Eoin Macken) and Scott (Scott Wolf) work desperately to save a young boy and his mother who were injured in a car accident. With the boy's life hanging in the balance, the team starts to realize there is more to the family dynamic than meets the eye," NBC teased. "Meanwhile, Drew and Syd, deployed overseas in Afghanistan, deal with the aftermath of shots fired in the OR."

It's too bad the ER will be without two familiar faces. Krista (Jeananne Goossen) and Ragosa (Freddy Rodriguez) will leave the Lone Star state behind as season 3 begins, but Syd and Shannon Rivera (Tanaya Beatty) will step in to fill the void.

The season premiere, "The Times They Are A-Changin," will pick up several months after the devastating events of "Darkest Before Dawn." Without the promise of a little bundle of joy tying them together, it remains to be seen where TC and Jordan (Jill Flint) will stand on the relationship spectrum. Depression and emotional dissonance tore the docs apart once before, and we'd hate to see it happen again.
