It's been considered a safe bet he isn't the one who Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killed by bashing in their skull with a studded baseball bat, but that doesn't mean Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is safe from any sort of horrifying fate on The Walking Dead.

In a recent Reddit AMA, show creator and comic book writer Robert Kirkman revealed that even his major protagonist will eventually die, though of course he wouldn't say when or how.

"Do Rick die?" One fan asked.

"He do eventually," he replied.

This confession sent some fans into a frenzy, as they wondered when Rick would be the one who saw how life come to an end, since the death of major characters from the show is always a big deal, especially as the numbers of original cast members continue to dwindle.

Though Kirkman wouldn't give other details, it is safe to assume Rick wasn't the one who met the business end of Negan's bat, since both he and Carl (Chandler Riggs) were mentioned by Negan after he chose his victim, implying what they would be forced to do if anyone stopped him from killing who he did.

However, if he does survive that, he could die in some other spectacular way, especially as the violence with Negan is sure to only continue. But there is no guarantee that this would be the way Rick meets his end either.

One fan even pointed out in the thread on the AMA that Rick doesn't even have to die spectacularly, and Kirkman could just mean he'll die eventually as everyone does in life. And since the virus is in everyone, he could easily come back as a walker with very little struggle.

"It's a paradox or meta or some such shit...everyone has the virus...so basically everyone is already a zombie...the flesh-eating ones are just further along. We are all...the walking dead," the fan wrote.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October.
