When actress Michelle Williams attended a fashion party on Tuesday in New York City, she revealed an edgier and younger haircut.

The 32-year-old Oz Great and Powerful star was at the launch party for designer Kate Young's collaboration with Target wearing a white blazer, navy satin shorts and a sheer top with a brand - along with a new hairstyle.

The cut was a surprise since last month Williams said she was ready to grow out her signature pixie look.

"It's on its way, slowly but surely," she told E! News about the pixie haircut she had at the time. "That's why I've stayed with short hair for so long... he mid-stage is insufferable. It's really hard on your self-esteem."

"I'm really happy to not have anything looming-except my hair," Williams joked. "I'm really working on my hair growing out."

Williams said in an earlier interview that the short haircut was a tribute to her late ex-boyfriend, actor Heath Ledger.

"Straight men across the board are not into this hair!" Williams told ELLE in November 2011. "I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it." 

Williams also told the publication that her daughter, Matilda, said she wants the actress to grow her hair out.

"What Matilda would love is for her mom to grow out the cropped hair, though that's unlikely to happen any time soon," Williams said at the time.

Williams broke up with How I Met Your Mother actor Jason Segel in February. They had been dating since March of 2012 but the couple reportedly could not endure a long distance relationship, as Williams raises her 8-year-old in Brooklyn and Segel films his CBS show in Los Angeles.
