Sometimes, living in a country with strict broadcasting rules might be worth it. For fans of the hit anime Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress in China, this is exactly what happened. After the Chinese government finally decided to pull the plug on the anime's distribution in the country, the producers of series announced a little gift for the fans, in the form of an MMORPG adaptation.

That's right. Chinese anime fans might not be able to watch the anime's events unfold, but they sure would be able to live it. The release of the game has been made official too, with Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress producer Koji Yamamoto confirming on Thursday that the series would be halting its run in China due to the country's "rules," and that a massively multiplayer online role-playing game would be launched soon.

From what Yamamoto has revealed, the MMORPG would be a pretty cool title too, featuring various elements of the anime.

"China's halt on the distribution of the anime can't be helped, but the game is expected to incorporate music and various aspects of the anime," he announced in the Japanese publication Otakomu.

Though Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is currently enjoying a lot of popularity worldwide, the censorship of the series in China is actually not very surprising at all. Notably, one of the anime's scenes on the second episode, which featured female lead Mumei decapitating a Kabane and throwing the severed head to the ground while on the run, was censored by China. The censorship of the scene came to focus due to the episode airing first on China due to the coverage of the Kumamoto earthquake on April 15.

Thus, with the anime getting even more intense by the episode, it was not really much of a surprise that its themes would not pass the stringent guidelines of Chinese broadcast authorities.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is currently one of the most popular anime releases of the year, primarily due to the quality of its animation and its intense action scenes. The anime comes from Wit Studio, the firm responsible for the runaway hit Attack on Titan a couple of years ago.
