With just a handful of days before the beginning of Dragon Ball Super's next arc, fans of the franchise are more excited than ever. After all, with the massive revelations shared by creator Akira Toriyama himself, it would seem like the upcoming story would one of the franchise's most intense and interesting arcs yet.

Among the most interesting factors of the new arc, of course, is the antagonist, which Toriyama specifically called as Black Goku. Though nothing is known about the character except his name, avid fans of the Dragon Ball mythos have released their speculations about the character, and a number of them seem very legitimate.

One of the most interesting theories about Black Goku involves Goku being resurrected in the future. While Goku is known to have been dead in Future Trunks' timeline, there is a possibility that Goku might have been resurrected, but when he lived again, he reverted back to being a Saiyan.

As fans know, Saiyans in the series are known to be very aggressive and borderline evil, and Goku is only the way he is because of his upbringing on Earth. Thus, if he gets resurrected as a blank slate, his Saiyan blood might push him towards the dark side, and he might end up becoming Black Goku.

Another, more interesting theory was brought up recently, which alleges that Black Goku is actually the real Goku in Dragon Ball Super's current timeline. After all, Goku has the tendency to pursue power that matches any that exceeds him. Due to Goku meeting Whis, the other Gods of Destruction and the Omni King himself, Goku might end up having a mad determination to pursue more power.

Unfortunately, Goku would never succeed in matching the power of gods like Zeno, whose levels of power are beyond comprehension. Thus, failing in his quest for power, Goku might end up becoming evil. What's even more interesting in this theory is the fact that only Vegeta might be able to fight on Black Goku's level, simply due to the fact that Vegeta never allows himself to fall behind Goku in terms of strength and power.

Of course, there are other theories out there, such as Black Goku being Goku's counterpart from another universe. This is also quite plausible since the concept of multiple universes has already been introduced in the series.

One thing is sure, though. The next arc of Dragon Ball Super might very well be one of the best Dragon Ball stories yet.
