There are new details being revealed about Omar Saddiqi Mateen, the man who killed over 50 people and injured 50 more at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida on Saturday night. Now, the ex-wife of the 29-year-old suspect, who was killed by local police during a shootout, says Mateen was a physically abusive husband.

Although her identity has not been revealed, the ex-wife told the Washington Post on Sunday that she met Mateen online about eight years ago and moved to Florida to marry him. She says the marriage was normal at first until he became abusive towards her.

"He was not a stable person," she told the publication, adding, "He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn't finished or something like that."

She further explained, "He seemed like a normal human being. He wasn't very religious and worked out at the gym often," adding that he also gave no signs of being a member of the radical Islamic movement and that he owned a small-caliber handgun and worked as a security guard.

Multiple reports add that Mateen had allegedly pledged his allegiance with ISIS before opening fire in what is now being considered the deadliest mass murder in United States history. Although a U.S. citizen, he was born to Afghan parents who lived in New York before moving to Fort Pierce, Florida.
