Derek Hough speaks on whether he will ever come back to dance on ABC's Dancing With the Stars again.

Hough has been a huge part of the success of Dancing With the Stars, having won six Mirrorball trophies with his various celebrity partners - the most of any pro. His absence in the show's most recent season was noticed, and many of his fans are wondering if he will ever return to the ballroom.

Luckily, Hough still plans on returning, at least according to a recent interview.

"Yeah, absolutely, man," he told Access Hollywood when asked if he would return. "I mean, Dancing with the Stars is my family. I've been a part of that show for so long and I can't imagine not being a part of that show somehow."

Hough also delved into what makes Dancing With the Stars different from other reality shows, and why it appeals to him as a dancing professional.

"One thing I love about that show, what I love about being a part of that show, is the coaching and the teaching and the creating and I think that's what's so special about it is it's not just a reality competition show," he explained. "You're really learning a skill on there. You're really developing something before your eyes and it's amazing. There's nothing like it. That's why it's going strong in 20-plus seasons. You can't compare it to anything else on television."

Hough won season 7 with Brooke Burke, season 10 with Nicole Scherzinger, season 11 with Jennifer Grey, season 16 with Kellie Pickler, season 17 with Amber Riley and season 21 with Bindi Irwin. He has also placed in the finale three other times.

As for whether he will actually be a pro in the upcoming 23rd season, Hough will be busy rehearsing for his role in NBC's Hairspray Live! plus an upcoming Broadway production of Singin' in the Rain. It remains to be seen if he could somehow fit another season of DWTS in between all of that, but for now it seems unlikely.

Dancing With the Stars is set to return for its 23rd season this fall on ABC. It will return to the Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
