If there is one thing that the late Christina Grimmie was very open about, it is her love for Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. In fact, her adoration for the beloved franchise was so evident that her YouTube channel's name is zeldaxlove64.

Now that she has passed on, thousands of her fans have started an online petition asking the Japanese gaming giant to immortalize the fallen singer by making her an NPC in the upcoming game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

In a lot of ways, it seems quite fitting. According to friends who have posted comments on the petition, Grimmie had always expressed her dream of becoming part of the Zelda franchise, hopefully as an elf. Even her brother, who was among the proponents of the petition, also confirmed this.

In a statement responding to the petition, Nintendo assured the late singer's supporters that it is fully aware of the ongoing efforts to include Grimmie as an NPC in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, which is set to be released for the Wii U and the Nintendo NX next year.

However, the gaming giant has also stated that it would not be making any creative decisions about the development of the game at this time.

"We are aware of the outpouring of support for her, as well as the petition, but we won't be making any creative or content decisions in this time of mourning," Nintendo's response stated.

While it is a bit disheartening to hear that Nintendo is not committing to the fallen singer's request at this time, the gaming giant's response is nevertheless understandable. Currently, Nintendo is engaged in an intense battle between its two biggest rivals in the console gaming industry, Sony and Microsoft, with its champion, the Wii U, being beaten significantly in sales and performance by the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the gaming giant's trump cards against its competition, with the IP perceived to somewhat boost the Wii U's struggling sales and help launch the popularity of its next-generation console, the upcoming NX.

Then again, if Nintendo does indeed honor Grimmie, who is probably one of the biggest Zelda fans on the planet, the gaming giant would be able to show that it is a class act. In the long run, the addition of Grimmie as an NPC in the Zelda franchise would probably benefit the gaming firm more than it would benefit the singer's fans.
