One of the co-creators of Netflix's Bloodline recently discussed what the show is really about.

*Spoilers for Bloodline ahead*

Netflix still hasn't renewed Bloodline for a third season, but the creators/showrunners still have a plan in the event that the show does come back. Co-creator Glenn Kessler spoke with Deadline recently about the plan for the Florida Keys drama and how it is unfolding like one classic story.

"We always planned on multiple seasons. It's about the family and the relationships of those family members," Kessler said. "Danny was always going to [die], like in 'Crime and Punishment' and other stories where it happens early. 'Bloodline' is about watching these relationships evolve."

Kessler also spoke about the appeal of setting this dark family drama in the idyllic yet unsettling Florida Keys.

"A picture postcard beautiful paradise. But it has a very creepy underbelly of human trafficking, drug trafficking," Kessler said, of the Keys. "It is the most southern point in the United States, it's the closest point to Cuba, and there's a lot of weirdness which is great for the show. There's a lot of texture. People do seem to drop out of their lives there from a lot of places. They're either running to something or running from something."

He noted that the location is "a unique place," adding, "there's a pace of life that's very different. It's spread out. It's beautiful physically but it's basically a two-lane highway. It's like 80 or 100 miles of roads with business just along the highway."

It's not entirely clear if Netflix will renew Bloodline for season 3. The series is facing the issue of Florida's tax incentive changes in July, so it's possible that Netflix may not allow them to film there. Considering the Florida Keys setting is integral to the show's overall feeling and quality, this would be a problem.

Bloodline's first two seasons are available to stream now on Netflix.
