Daryl Dixon (assuming he wasn't Negan's victim in the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead) is about to get some company on the show when it comes to being a character with no comic-related backstory.

According to reports, two new characters are scheduled to make their debut in season 7, and neither one has a comic book counterpart and have been written specifically for the show, much like fan-favorite Daryl (Norman Reedus).

In his Ask Ausiello column for TV Line, Michael Ausiello revealed that he had been told some details about the two new characters, and revealed they are both female.

"Isn't asking if I have scoop like asking a walker if you look tasty?" He wrote in response to a fan's question about the upcoming season this October. "The answer is always yes! Episode 6 will introduce two new characters who don't sound to me like anyone in particular from the comic-book series. (Correct me if I'm wrong-and we both know you will)."

"Naomi is a grandmotherly type who, having lost so many loved ones, is now willing to do whatever it takes not to have to bury any more. (Maybe she's being introduced to counsel Carol about the awful necessities of the post-apocalyptic world...)," Ausiello continued. "On the flip side is Jennie, a sunny-side-up kinda teenager-oh, Caaarl!--who sounds a lot like Beth 2.0, 'kind, with a world-weary toughness.'"

It's unclear what other information Ausiello may have about the characters, though they could completely change the story since, if they aren't based on other characters from the comics, their stories can be taken anywhere.

As of now, the direction the show takes in season seven is heavily up in the air since no one actually knows who was killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his studded baseball bat Lucille in the final moments of the season six finale. Once the identity of the victim is revealed in the opening moments of the season seven premiere, fans will have a better idea of how the story could proceed, and where these new characters will fit in in that story.

The Walking Dead returns in October.
