Robert Todd Harrell, bassist for 3 Doors Down, has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication as well as bringing controlled substances into a jail.

According to the Associated Press, Harrell, 41, was arrested after he was involved in a vehicular collision on Interstate 40 outside of Nashville, Tenn on Friday night. The crash resulted in the death of 47-year-old Paul Howard Shoulders Jr.

Metropolitan Nashville Police Department states that the crash occurred while Harrell was driving west at high speed. His car clipped Shoulders' pickup, resulting in the pickup hitting a guardrail and overturning at the bottom of an embankment, according to the Huffington Post.

The Associated Press further reports that Shoulders, who was not using a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

According to CNN, Harrell admitted to imbibing hard cider as well as consuming the prescription drugs Lortab and Xanax. Furthermore, upon being searched during booking, Harrell was found to have a bag containing 8 Xanax pills, 24 oxycodone pills and 4 oxymorphone pills in his sock.

The band, all whose members have had relatively quiet twitters this weekend, posted a short statement on their website saying, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr.  Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time"
