While Cynthia Bailey of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta is ready to officially divorce her estranged husband Peter Thomas, it’s safe to say he did not see this coming.

The two separated after getting into several heated conversations on the show. And even though rumors that Thomas was cheating on Bailey swirled, they both have said their distance is what caused their separation as Thomas tended to his bar in Charlotte, N.C. and Bailey was based in Atlanta and frequently traveled. Now, Bailey has revealed at the Essence Festival that she and Thomas are gearing up for a divorce.

But Thomas said this was not the plan.

“On July 24th, Cynthia Bailey and I will be married six years, and for our entire marriage we have been a part of ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta,’ Bravo TV’s most successful reality show. As a result, Cynthia and I have shared almost every aspect of our lives with the millions of ‘RHOA’ fans," he told Uptown Magazine earlier this month.

He pointed out that their wedding aired on the show and all of the family drama that came with it.

“We were in this together. And until July 5th, I thought we were in agreement about our separation until I was flooded with calls, text messages, direct messages, and emails from my closest friends and family members. They were concerned about my well-being after reading news stories and blog posts where my wife says, ‘We are just not going to be married anymore.’”

He revealed that while divorce has been a topic of conversation for them, “It wasn’t smething that I wanted.”

“But this is something that I believe she thinks she needs. And honestly, I wish we could have made the public announcement jointly.”

He also made it clear that he has “never cheated on her” and has “never taken money” from her.

He ended with saying the show is not the cause for their split, but it did “put a strain” on their marriage.
