Blake Shelton hasn't opened up about his divorce from Miranda Lambert much in the past year, but he may finally be getting candid about what led to the pair's romance falling apart.

In a new interview with Billboard, Shelton got more candid and honest than he ever has before about both of his relationships-he and Lambert were together for a decade and married for four years before announcing their divorce last July, while he and Gwen Stefani went public as a dating couple in November-and may have even hinted at what caused the split with Lambert in the first place while discussing his album.

In the interview, Shelton reveals that his album If I'm Honest, which dropped back in the spring, follows a specific time frame in his life throughout 2015, starting with the song "Straight Out of Cold Beer," which reflected how he felt in the beginning of the year, followed by the songs which progressively led to the time of his divorce, and eventually, finding new love with Stefani.

However, he notably doesn't deny that the song "She's Got A Way With Words," which recalls a lover who cheated and lied is about some of the facts behind his divorce, though he also doesn't confirm it either. Shelton admitted he didn't write the song, but his not giving an exact answer about it may be his way of suggesting that the divorce wasn't as clean as previously believed.

However, while not overly forthcoming about the divorce, he was much more open about how the relationship he has grown to have with Stefani came to be, describing the process of how they went from two people who didn't know one another that well while working on the set of The Voice, to two people who ultimately fell in love after bonding over their similar experiences (Stefani announced her divorce from Gavin Rossdale a few weeks after Shelton and Lambert).

"I thought it was going to be another one of those things-are-going-to-be-OK talks," he recalled about Stefani going to see him after he announced his divorce to his co-workers. "She didn't tell me much, because we didn't know each other at the time, but she said, 'I'm going through something very similar to what you're going through. I understand. And I hate it.'"

"That's kind of how our friendship and bond started, that day. It went from that, to checking on each other once a week through email--'This s**t happened to me, what happened to you?'--to maybe three times a week, then every day, to 'Hey, here's my phone number if you ever want to text.' Next thing I know, I wake up and she's all I care about, and I'm wondering if she feels the same about me," he continued. "Gwen saved my life. Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician? You can't even imagine the similarities in our divorces."
