The recent events in Dragon Ball Super have been noted to be far deeper than the usual offerings of the popular franchise, with the plot taking rather unexpected turns and a number of characters being explored pretty well.

The previous episode was quite interesting in this aspect, as its title, which alleged that Black Goku's identity will be revealed, seemed to have been completely ignored by the anime. Indeed, the episode featured Goku and Zamasu's fight prominently, and that was about it.

This has led a number of fans to speculate that at this point in the anime, there is almost no doubt that Zamasu and Black Goku would be one and the same. This has been foreshadowed in the previous episodes of Dragon Ball Super as well, with Whis and Beerus remarking that Black and Zamasu have very similar Ki.

However, with the events of the previous episode in mind, it seems like the anime would have another twist coming, in the form of Son Goku actually being the catalyst for the creation of his evil counterpart in the future.

During Son Goku's brief fight with Zamasu, the apprentice Kai was visibly upset over the fact that Goku, a human, held so much power to the point where he was completely outmatched. At the end of their battle, Zamasu seemed like he was about to attack Goku once more, before he was stopped by Gowasu, his superior.

When Goku, Beerus and Whis were leaving, Zamasu was shown to be thinking to himself that he will never forget Son Goku, nor the rather humiliating defeat he suffered at the hands of the Z fighter.

If there is anything that could be determined in the last episode, it is the fact that Zamasu has some darkness in him. He looks down on humans and questions his superior if people are really worth protecting. Apart from this, he showed a considerable dislike to Goku immediately, simply because of his race.

Thus, his defeat in the hands of Son Goku must have shaken him to the core. If any, the humiliation he felt while being outmatched by Goku might very well be enough to trigger something different in him. In fact, there is a chance that his defeat might very well be the catalyst for the creation of Black himself.

If this is indeed the case, Dragon Ball Super would feature a very notable paradox in the ongoing Future Trunks arc, as the story's biggest threat, Black Goku, might have been created by the intervention of none other than Son Goku. After all, by beating Zamasu and unleashing his dark energies, Goku might have unwittingly released Black Goku from the heart of the young but gifted apprentice Kai.

Of course, only time will tell if this particular theory is true. However, it is, nonetheless a very interesting premise. If the anime does take this course, then it becomes pretty safe to assume that Dragon Ball Super would go down in anime history as one of the best Dragon Ball series ever produced.
