Bones stars John Boyd and Tamara Taylor are already looking back on the show's run and teasing what's ahead for the final season.

Boyd, who plays Aubrey on the Fox procedural, and Taylor, who plays Cam, spoke at San Diego Comic-Con in July about the past and future of Bones. Boyd discussed when he joined the series, in the aftermath of Sweets' (John Francis Daley) death.

"I don't think they could have been cooler. It was amazing," Boyd said at the event, in a new video posted by BuddyTV this week. "There were some serious shoes to fill and coming on a show after such a traumatic thing to happen to such a beloved character and they really just gave me my own thing and let me play and explore it. I really got to build something with Booth that's really fun to do."

As for the future, Taylor teased that she thinks the show is going to "kick it up a few notches" in the final episodes, which includes some character deaths.

Part of this final season will include picking up where things left off in the season 11 finale. Former Jeffersonian intern Zack (Eric Millegan) returned and kidnapped Brennan (Emily Deschanel), leaving things off on a huge cliffhanger.

Taylor discussed Zack's return and how Cam will be rather hesitant in believing that he was the one who did the deed.

"I don't think she wants to believe that he was the one in the first place," Taylor observed. "I think there was such a love for him that I think a part of her is still very hesitant to embrace what happened and the truth of what happened."

Taylor ultimately admitted that she and the rest of the cast are still trying to get used to calling the upcoming season the "final" one, adding that it is "bittersweet."

Bones season 12 premieres in early 2017 on Fox, though a specific premiere date has not yet been announced.
