While he may have had fun taking his shirt off in Magic Mike, Matthew McConaughey has not only recently moved his career into a more serious direction, but he also has a more weighty responsibility when he heads home at night.

"I was looking for something that was going to move the floor a little bit. Shake me. Scare me a little bit. Make me go, 'Whoa! I don't know what I'll do with that role, but it's turned me on. I'm attracted to it. Let's go do it and find out," McConaughey told The Boston Globe of his move from rom-coms.

While the 43-year-old actor was still being pitched roles that seemed doable, he had other reasons for wanting to take his time and seek out new challenges.

"I'm starting a family. I'm going to be a dad and hang around and get a homestead going. So I'm going to wait for something else to come my way," the actor said of his mindset, according to the Boston Globe.

The change lead McConaughey to try his hand at films such as The Lincoln Lawyer and Killer Joe, all while building a family.

The father of three appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman last night in conjunction with his current film Mud, but the conversation soon turned towards his children.

"We've got Levi, he's going to be an astronaut. He loves building airports all night long in the living room," McConughey said of their 4-year-old son, according to People.

Meanwhile Vida, age 3, is a budding fashionista.

"It's about eight different forms of dress and undress and headbands and angel wings and different shoes," said the actor, according to omg!.

McConughey and his wife Camila Alves added a third child to their brood four months ago, ratcheting up the chaos in their life. However, the family is constantly on the move with McConughey's jobs.

"It's hard to keep career, your love life, your parenthood life, your health, and your friendships all at a good level," McConughey told The Boston Globe. "Family life would be moving down into the debit section if I didn't have them with me."

Currently McConughey can be seen in Mud with Reese Witherspoon.
