For Outlander's Jamie Fraser, the Battle of Culloden is far from over.

The Highlander urged Claire (Caitriona Balfe) back through the standing stones as the Jacobite Rising neared its sanguine end, but, despite what the time traveler originally thought, her husband walked away from Culloden Moore with his life intact. As season 3 begins, the Starz series will revisit that fateful day.

Sam Heughan (Jamie) and the Outlander cast were spotted filming the battle and it's aftermath in late August. Check out the photos below!

Set to air in 2017, Outlander's third season will breathe life into the events of Diana Gabaldon's Voyager. Readers know Jamie and Claire ultimately reunite after a 20-year separation, but, before the infamous print shop scene can take place, the Starz drama will lay the groundwork for their individual travails.

"We won't actually see what happens to Jamie after she's gone through the Stones until the next season - for me that's a really big question and something that will be really interesting to look at - who is Jamie without Claire, why is he still surviving or what has he got to live for when he's lost the woman that he loves?" Heughan told Variety. "She will eventually return, but they're both older, so who is the man he's become age-wise, physically? I think that's the joy of the show, it's never the same thing, it's constantly moving, so next season should be quite an adventure."
