They had already been stunned when he pled guilty to assaulting a prison guard and again when he appeared to escape from prison, but now, the most shocking moment of all has arrived, and Adam's (Justin Hartley) loved ones will be forced to gather together to say permanent goodbyes to him on The Young and the Restless.

Adam appears to have died in an explosion at the cabin he was hiding in, which was ruled accidental and not a homicide because it appeared to have been caused by a propane leak, which allowed the woman who actually did try to kill him-Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson)--to cover her tracks for shooting him with a dart gun. Now though, his family has nothing else they can do except try to move on from the heartache and pain over his death.

The two people who are taking the news of his death the hardest are his wife, Chelsea (Melissa Clare Egan), and father, Victor (Eric Braden). Victor feels guilt about Adam's death since he had arranged the prison escape and for his son to be at the cabin until it was time to board a plane for another country. Now, knowing that he does shoulder some of the blame for what happened, he will go to Chelsea and assure her that following the memorial, he won't try to force her to let him into his grandson Connor's life, and will even be supportive if she chooses to leave Genoa City for good.

"If you want to start a new life with Connor somewhere else, I will not stand in your way," he says in a preview clip for the Wednesday, September 7 episode.

However, one person won't feel any sympathy for Victor over his loss and will refuse to attend the memorial because of his being there. And because of that move, any common ground Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) and Jack (Peter Bergmann) had once again found will once again be lost, and the two will see their marriage once again starting to fall apart because of their disagreement over how to handle such a monumental loss.

"I am going to this memorial service and I will go to Victor and acknowledge his loss," Jack shouts in the clip.

The Young and the Restless airs Monday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
