True to form, Clash of Clans developer Supercell reached out to fans in a recent blog post, asserting the company's values in creating the game. While the gesture was appreciated by many, numerous other Clash of Clans users felt rather insulted by Supercell's announcement.

Reaching Out or Setting Expectations Low?

Supercell's announcement was brief yet detailed, with the developer stating that it is sharing Clash of Clans' design values with the community.

"The Clash of Clans team's goal has always been to build a game that people would play not just for weeks or months, but for years. Achieving this goal is an epic challenge that keeps the fire lit under our team," Supercell stated in its official Clash of Clans blog.

"So how do we tackle this? To help you better understand how we think about the game, we would like to share the team's core design values with you."

What particularly irked some fans of the game were the following statements, with many accusing the developer of trying to set expectations low for the rumored major Clash of Clans September 2016 update.

"We know that with a community this large and diverse, not everyone will feel the same way about changes or agree on what's best for the game. Hopefully, sharing our development philosophy will give you more insight into our decision-making process and set the stage for many, many fruitful conversations for years to come," Supercell stated.

Clash of Clans Players Aggravated

Though the announcement could simply be interpreted as Supercell being very open to its user base, many Clash of Clans players have stated that the words the develop used seemed to suggest that the features fans have been clamoring for would not make an appearance in the upcoming September update.

Avid Clash of Clans player and Redditor Kelbesq is one of the announcement's detractors.

"I'm sure this is just a precursor to a post later this month detailing the new update. Now they can say 'We are doing X because it aligns with design value Y' instead of 'because reasons.'"

The current low morale of Clash of Clans players is completely understandable. After all, apart from a disappointing previous update, Supercell has also canceled the biggest Clash of Clans event of the year. As confirmed in a previous announcement, ClashCon 2016, which had already been scheduled later this year, has been officially canceled.
