Dylan O'Brien is back in action, this time as American Assassin's ruthless Mitch Rapp.

A counter-terrorism operative under the auspices of the CIA, Rapp hails from Vince Flynn's acclaimed political thrillers. Marred by the loss of his high school sweetheart following the Lockerbie bombing and scooped up by the Agency following his graduation from Syracuse, Rapp will move to the big screen as another world war looms.

Teen Wolf's O'Brien snagged the role during the spring, and European filming began earlier this month. American Assassin marks the actor's first time in front of the camera since his The Maze Runner: The Death Cure accident back in March, and new photos indicate that everything is copacetic.

In the film, Rapp is a "CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton)," according to Deadline. "The pair then is enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on military and civilian targets. Together they discover a pattern in the violence that leads them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a world war in the Middle East."

There is currently no release date for American Assassin. O'Brien will return to work on Teen Wolf in October and resume filming for The Death Cure in February.
