At the start of this year, Dakota Johnson was dating musician Matthew Hitt, but earlier this summer, a source confirmed the couple had split after about two years together.

As Johnson was busy on the Fifty Shades trilogy in Canada, Hitt and his band, the Drowners, were involved in a summer-long tour, which reportedly caused strain in their relationship.

"Dakota and Matthew have dated on-and-off for the past two years," a source told Just Jared, according to a report by E! News in June. "They didn't get a chance to see much of each other recently because their work schedules didn't align. She's been up in Vancouver shooting the Fifty Shades trilogy."

According to the report, Johnson and Hitt went public with their relationship in 2013 and parted ways in early 2015. However, after taking some time off, the couple got back together before calling it quits for a second time months ago.

Following news of the split, Johnson was linked to Jake Gyllenhaal and reportedly engaged in a fling with the actor a while back.

“Even though it was just a fling, Dakota had really strong feelings for him so when he dumped her out of the blue, she was really shocked,” a source told Heat magazine, via the Morning News USA. “But it was all because Jake freaked out, as he’s a bit of a commitment-phobe.”

Following the fling, Gyllenhaal reportedly had regrets about not pursuing Johnson and labeled her as the “one who got away.”
