No amount of magic could save Jake. T Austin from becoming the Dancing with the Stars first season 23 elimination.

The former Wizards of Waverly Place star is all grown up, and, until Tuesday night, he was ready to slip on his dancing shoes. Despite racking in more points than failed presidential hopeful Rick Perry, however, Austin (with Jenna Johnson) was ousted following his "TV Night" performance.

While we appreciate the series' nod to Austin's voice acting career, perhaps the Go, Diego, Go! theme song was not the best selection for the cha-cha-cha (although it was significantly better than the Fear the Walking Dead theme James Hinchcliffe was saddled with).

As this season's controversy magnet, Ryan Lochte (with Cheryl Burke) was the last to be called safe. With a cumulative total of 48 points, the swimmer's quickstep and foxtrot put him just two points ahead of Austin.

Perry (with Emma Slater), meanwhile, came in beneath both of these duos. Fans spared the Texan despite his inability to amass more than a mere 42 points. We'd love to get inside voters' minds to find out exactly why. Dancing with the Stars decision to completely disregard their point system in lieu of voting remains one of the most baffling decisions in the reality TV sphere.
