There's more to Gibbs' new NCIS agents than meets the eye. Nick Torres and Alex Quinn have a mutual secret, one that even they may not be aware of.

The NCIS season 14 premiere introduced viewers to Tony DiNozzo's (Michael Weatherly) replacements - the unpredictable Nick (Wilmer Valderrama), who is fresh off of mind-bogglingly long deep-cover assignment, and FLETC trainer/Special Agent Alex Quinn (Jennifer Esposito). While Quinn knew Torres when he was her student, their connection plays on a deeper level.

"She was the instructor that trained him and assigned him to be an undercover agent ... but there may be other history between Alex Quinn and Nick Torres that eventually will resurface," Valderrama cryptically told TV Guide, carefully tiptoeing around the truth.

Considering how little we know about each character, it's difficult to speculate about their shared history. Did they have a romantic relationship? Are they hiding a dark secret, perhaps about another case? With Torres' seemingly unknowable past, anything is possible.

Nick Torres is someone that doesn't show up in any of the profiles or anywhere in the system in NCIS," Valderrama said, according to TV Guide. "It's a very unpredictable type of job for these agents who are believed to not even exist. There's no record of them at all. So that, to me, is already a notion of where NCIS can go, the territories that haven't been explored."

Hmm...sounds like trouble is brewing in the Navy Yard. Find out what's next for Gibbs' team during the series' next episode, "Being Bad" (see a preview below).

"NCIS uncovers a bomb plot and a long-running theft ring while investigating a death at a Quantico reunion," CBS teased. "Also Torres and Quinn adjust to life on Gibbs' team, including new seating arrangements in the squad room."

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
