Pokemon GO may be fading in hype compared to its massive pop cultural relevance in the summer, but it's still making millions of dollars every day.

There's no denying that this summer was the summer of Pokemon GO, frequently making headline news all over the world. Yet, now that fall has taken over, the hype on the popular app seems to be lessening. But don't call it a fad just yet.

A new report from Newzoo reports that Pokemon GO is still making $2 million per day, according to Game Franchise Consumer Insights. While this is down from the $16 million per day windfall of its peak, it's still a pretty impressive number.

"'Pokémon GO' has opened our eyes in many ways. It has refreshed the top grossing mobile game ranking that has been dominated by a small number of publishers and games for a long time," says Newzoo CEO Peter Warman. "It has proven beyond a doubt that AR can be applied in ways that appeal to a mass audience. Equally important from a business perspective, it has given Niantic investor Google enormous insight and data that it can incorporate into its location-based advertising and services strategy. The fact that 'Pokémon GO' has motivated kids and youngsters to spend more time outside is an additional bonus, even if that means they take their screens with them."

As it turns out, Niantic may have underestimated the popularity of Pokemon GO when the app first launched, with the actual downloads/transactions being 50 times greater than they expected.

"The teams targeted 1X player traffic, with a worst-case estimate of roughly 5X this target. Pokémon GO's popularity quickly surged player traffic to 50X the initial target, ten times the worst-case estimate," a new Google Cloud blog post states. "In response, Google CRE seamlessly provisioned extra capacity on behalf of Niantic to stay well ahead of their record-setting growth."
