Niantic has been pretty open about the notion of introducing Generation 2 Pokemon into the company's extremely popular augmented reality mobile title, Pokemon GO. With competition in the mobile gaming world getting more intense by the day, it is pertinent for Pokemon GO to ensure that its mechanics and features stay fresh for its players.

One of the biggest updates that are scheduled for Pokemon GO is the much-awaited Generation 2 rollout, which numerous players speculate would be implemented sometime within the next few months. Niantic has been very deliberate about Pokemon GO updates so far, and the introduction of new monsters to catch and train is widely considered as one of the biggest updates that the game can have.

While the hype for a Generation 2 Pokemon rollout is very high, avid fans of the augmented reality title are speculating that Niantic would most likely release the final monsters from Generation 1 first. After all, the current lineup of available monsters to capture in Pokemon GO does not include Ditto, Mew, Mewtwo, and the three legendary birds, Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres.

Niantic has not provided any concrete details about the Generation 2 rollout as of date, but the developer has assured fans that there are a lot of compelling updates in Pokemon GO that are scheduled for the next few months. Creative data miners have already uncovered references to Pokemon trading in the game's code, for example, bringing many Pokemon GO fans to believe that a trading system would be launched soon.

Considering the pace of Niantic in releasing Pokemon GO updates, there is a good chance that the all-important trading system would be introduced sometime late October or early November. After the trading system, speculations are high that the developer would incorporate trainer battles into the game. That feature is rumored to be coming either in December or early 2017.

After the trainer vs. trainer system is rolled out, however, it would finally be Generation 2 monsters' turn to be rolled out. Thus, speculations for the Pokemon GO Generation 2 release date point to either February or March 2017.
