Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying was arrested for allegedly hiring a person to kill his wife.

The 32-year-old singer was picked up by police in Oceanside, Calif. at around 2 p.m., reports Fox 5 San Diego.

Jan Caldwell of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department states that the police were tipped off to Lambesis' plan in advance, reports Reuters. The musician was arrested when he attempted to bring an undercover detective on the job.

"The information came to us late last week. We acted quickly on it. I believe that we averted a great tragedy," Caldwell said, according to Reuters.

While Lambesis was reportedly estranged from his wife, who lived in Encinitas, Calif., there is no word on what prompted him to set this plan into motion.

According to Patch, Lambesis was booked at the Vista Detention Facility.

As I Lay dying is a metalcore band with Christian overtones. The band was founded in part by Lambesis in 2001 and has since release six albums. In 2008 they received a Grammy nomination for the song "Nothing Left" under the category of Best Metal Performance.

Neither the band or their label have released a statement on the incident.
