British boy band One Direction became the first UK act in 14 years to debut a song in the top 30 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

The single "What Makes You Beautiful" entered at No. 28, the highest debut single since the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" debuted at No. 13 in 1998. The song also moved 132,000 downloads to appear at No. 12 on the Digital Songs chart.

One Direction's chart success was done without radio airplay, which their record label (Columbia) will push next week.

The boys are currently gearing up for a tour with Big Time Rush, and a performance next month on NBC's Today show.
