While they were held in captivity, Amanda Berry’s daughter was delivered by Michele Knight under death threats by alleged captor, Ariel Castro.

Knight was forced to give the newborn baby CPR after Castro allegedly threatened to kill them.

He was charged on Thursday with rape and kidnapping, and one of the rapes resulted in Berry's pregnancy with her now 6-year-old daughter, Jocelyn. Knight, now 32, had to save the little girl's life when she was born in an inflatable pool six years ago while the women were held against their will in Castro's basement.

Castro told the women that if the baby died, he would kill Berry. Knight later told police that she put her mouth to Jocelyn's and breathed for her in order to resuscitate her, and after saving the infant's life, Knight was told to clean up the mess.

None of the women were allowed to seek medical treatment.

Knight also told police that she was impregnated at least five times. However, Castro beat and starved her to force miscarriages.

Knight disappeared in August 2002 and police initially believed she may have left because she lost custody of her child. It has been reported that Knight has facial and hearing damage after years of beating.

Barbara Knight, her mother, appeared on Today to discuss the ordeal she and her family have been through. She has not yet seen her daughter since she was found, but Barbara said she had never given up hope.

"Certain people said she didn't want nothing to do with me but still in my heart I thought no, because I knew my Michelle," she said. "They figured she just left because of the baby and everything."

Barbara said she had filed a missing person's report after her daughter's disappearance in 2002. The police had promised to follow up if they ever received a notice, but nothing ever came of it.

Barbara said she does not want her daughter to think she had forgotten about her.

"I just wish that my daughter would reach out and let me know that she's there... She's probably angry at the world because she thought she would never be found but thank God that somebody did," she said.
